Keith Reflects on the Past, Enjoys the Present, and is Hopeful for the Future

Keith enjoys veggies from one of the garden boxes at CONNECT Langley.

Keith has called CONNECT Langley home for more than two years and, while enjoying life, his house mates and the coaches who help support him, his goal is building a more independent future.

He sustained a brain injury in a motor vehicle accident in 1983 when he was just 29 years old. He was the passenger in a car that was totaled in a collision.

“I would love to move back to Kitsilano one day and live somewhere independently,” he says. “There is lots to do in the city, it’s easy to access transit, and there are museums and concerts and galleries.”

Keith used to enjoy the symphony in Vancouver and has always been interested in archeology.

He says life at CONNECT is great. He has his own room and spends his time walking, exploring the neighbourhood, helping around the house, doing laundry, helping with cooking once in a while.

He particularly enjoys the backyard and gardens at CONNECT in the summer when he can be outside and soak up the beautiful weather.

Prior to CONNECT, Keith lived in a group home in Coquitlam and he was in Vancouver at GF Strong before that.

“I am happy here. The people are great. And I like the idea of eventually moving back to the city. We’ll see. In the meantime, I just go with the flow and enjoy every day.”
