Mindfulness + Movement = Magic

On Wednesday July 17 a group of people from CONNECT Langley gathered for Mindful Movement, a class lead by Physical Coach Jessica Campbell.

People are tapping into the countless benefits of mindfulness every Wednesday at CONNECT Langley. Physical Coach Jessica Campbell started Mindful Movement in September 2023. It’s a one-hour class she leads involving mindfulness, meditation and movement.

“We usually start with a short video from Headspace which is a free resource on YouTube, which includes some learning and education followed by some mindfulness practice. Then we do some movement.”

Eli, who lives at CONNECT Langley, says mindfulness was a big part of his life before his brain injury. He loves Mindful Movement and attends every week.

“Mindfulness is so valuable in my life. It’s helpful to take that time to be quiet and breathe and reset.”

The movement portion of class looks different each week. Sometimes it’s chair yoga, exercise bingo, dodgeball, tai chi or Qigong.

Jessica says Mindful Movement is a perfect opportunity for her to see a number of people supported by CONNECT at one time. She is able to spend some time with individuals she might not otherwise see that week.

“I love doing this with the people we support. Sometimes we just have a small group and other times the room is full. And all of us can benefit from these practices that help deal with anxiety, pain and conflict.”
